Jef, the Brussels King of Snails

Chez Jef et Fils Escargots is an institution in Brussels.
You can find Jef himself at the Bourse in the center of Brussels and his annex in Anderlecht.
Delicious snails in their broth are served in a plastic cup for €5, with a glass of white or rose wine available for  €2.
Jef must be about 70 now, he started this job when he was 13 working with his mother, he enjoys his trade a lot and... his succession is assured.

  2. Daar wil ik best wel eens een omwegje voor maken! Vind het heerlijk om wat escargots met een glaasje wijn te proeven.

  10. I've never tried snails. One of these days, i'll work up the courage. I've heard they're delicious. Sometimes it takes me years to try the best things.. i'm such a procrastinator!

  12. Hallo Anni,

  15. I would love to buy some escargots from Jef, or from anyone for that matter – this is not something you can find easily in the US – maybe in an expensive French restaurant, and that’s it. When I go to Paris I always try to eat some or my cousin will cook some for me as she knows that this is one of the dishes I miss here. Thanks for coming to my blog. I had not heard about the gees bend in Alabama – I read about it on the web, it’s quite something.

    1. it is funny, Vagabonde, that the Europeans or some of them find the idea attractive,
other won't ever consider trying the escargots
      thanks for your visit
