French Community of Belgium celebrates today.

It might be somewhat complicated to keep up with Belgium's official (federal and regional) holidays:  the national one on July 21, the Flemish one on July 11, the German-speaking community day on November 15. 
The French Community celebrates today, September 27. This day is chosen because the Dutch army under the command of the son of William of Orange, withdrew its troops from Brussels on September 27, 1830.

    I always come away from your blog post with a history lesson that I would not have known about. While history was not a subject I was interested in school, I find I enjoy it a lot more visiting your blog.

    compliceerde al de verschillende feestdagen.Het eerste jaar dat ik een België woonde en het de
    21 Juli was en ik nog niet wist, dat het een feestdag was ging ik met mijn kinderen 's morgens naar Antwerpen. Het was op een zaterdag en ik begreep niets dat alle winkels gesloten waren. Ik wist nog niet zo veel van België omdat ik altijd in Rotterdam bleef werken.
    Ik voelde mij, alsof ik een dag verslapen had, maar in een ijssalon hoorde ik dan van deze Nationale Feestdag. Ik zal het nooit vergeten. Groetjes DIetmut

      ah, Claude.. c'est le jour de fête de la communauté française pas dans le sens de la France mais dans le sens des francophones de Belgique (qui habitent la Wallonie) .. rien à voir avec la France.
      Nous avons une Belgique Fédérale, une communauté flamande (les Néerlandophones ou les Flamands), une communauté francophone mais qui s'appelle officiellement la communauté française.. puis les Germanophones...tous ont leur fête nationale ( régionale en fait dans le cas des régions).. J'espère que ceci clarifie un peu les choses....?
