Josaphat Park by Mirjam Devriendt

                                photo: Mirjam Devriendt
If you happen to be in the neighbourhood the coming days, do go check out this exhibition of photographs by Mirjam Devriendt.
Josaphat Park is a wonderful public part designed years ago, a remainder od "the old Linthout forest that began at Dailly square. It was inaugurated by King Leopold II on June 6, 1904. Its name comes from the resemblance between the valley of the Roodebeek (a tributary of the Maalbeek) where the park is located and the Valley of Josaphat in the Holy Land, noted by a pilgrim back from Palestine in 1574"

Guest photographer: Mirjam Devriendt

To continue in the seasonal ghostly atmospheric photographs spirit of castle ruins from the previous post,  I am delighted to show this breathtaking picture taken in As, Limburg last Sunday morning by Mirjam Devriendt,  professional photographer and teacher at the Academy of Etterbeek (Rhok, Etterbeek).
I showed Mirjam's series "Belgique, c'est chique" before, see:

Academy Anderlecht

Stop 2 on my June Academy trip is the Academy of Anderlecht (Brussels),  one of my very favorite.  Take one step into the door and you breath another world: you enter a captivating place with a special atmosphere, gorgeous old buildings, exceptional teachers (last photo).
Work of graduating photography students was presented to the critical scrutiny of an external jury.  Teun Voeten, a well known Dutch journalist, is shown in picture 3 (man holding book).
One student painted the floor under a voting booth in the Belgian colors to provide an appropriate context for her slide show on Belgian politics (photo 2).

"Belgique - c'est chique" by Mirjam Devriendt

Mirjam Devriendt is a professional photographer and a photography teacher.
She is originally from Kortrijk/Courtrai and after having spent quite some time in Brussels, she now lives in Ghent.
Mirjam has a precious gift in the sense that she is able to see talent everywhere, and in everyone. To be able to deal with a student body as heterogenous as the one at the Academy of Anderlecht - they are as diverse as they come, in age, in origin and background, they speak various and different languages, they have nothing in common, except of course the one thing that connects them: photography - you have to be not only unusually patient but also quite special. Mirjam is fantastic in organizing shooting opportunities for her students, in having them participate in big cultural events (one example is the Kunstenfestivaldesarts), in getting them out there.
Besides her work at the Academy, Mirjam is the photographer of artist Berlinde De Bruyckere and of several other artists.
These pictures are from Mirjams album "Belgique c'est chique".
