Lots and lots of color, fun, music, creativity and visitors in Brussels yesterday, Saturday May 19 at the occasion of the Zinneke Parade which takes place every two years and involves the many socio- cultural organizations of the capital.
"The name of the parade refers to both the Brussels river Zenne as to the stray dogs that used to roam around it. These mongrels have become a symbol for Brussels – an embodiment of the cosmopolitan and multicultural nature of the city. It’s therefore no surprise that all participants of the parade come from very different neighbourhoods, with contrasting backgrounds and a diverse array of beliefs." http://www.flanderstoday.eu/content/zinneke-paradehttp://www.zinneke.org/Historique-Zinneke?lang=en

ReplyDeleteHallo Anni,
ReplyDeleteEen kleurrijk evenement, maar wat te rumoerig naar mijn goesting... Knap in beeld gebracht!
De tentoonstelling was in Antoing. De persoon links op de laatste foto is Jacques Robert, wel bekende blogger en winnaar van de tweede prijs met de werken op mijn tweede foto.
Groetjes,
Frans
just love these pictures, can't wait to see part 2
ReplyDeleteI didn't know that 'zinnekes' also referred to the stray dogs. Never to old to learn a few things!
ReplyDeleteJolie parade, Anni !
ReplyDeleteAnni,
ReplyDeleteHow fun! I love parades especially when they are about the diverse cultures within a city. We lived in a city like that years ago where there were multi-cultural events with people participating from all walks of life! Loved it!
so very interesting.
ReplyDeletethanks for stopping by!
These are my favourite photos of the three posts! I love the steam punk aspects in the first photos and the spectators and I especially appreciate that they celebrate and embrace multiculturalism.
