Saturday morning in student-ville.

On the same dreary Saturday morning, I continued my photography trip through Leuven and was amazed by how quiet and almost abandoned the student city looked. No lines at the French fries kiosk "Vlinder St Jacobskerk"  (Butterfly at the St Jacobschurch),  only one man with backpack on a minibike , three motor-bikers with yellow helmet in a deserted Tiensestraat. How different the city looks when all the students are gone home for the weekend, a truly Belgian custom, how animated the place is during the weekdays and nights!

  1. Hallo Anni,

  8. We lived in a college town for 10 years . . . it's like a ghost town when the students are gone!

Do you think that the kids go home for the food on the weekends? I always thought my kids came home for mom's cooking! HA :)

  12. Well, often a deserted street is a photographer's dream. I hope this does not last too long for the merchants' sake!

  19. I lived in Leefdaal, just outside of Leuven, for about 9 years growing up. So happy to find your blog, although its making me homesick for the sights, smells, and tastes of Belgium.
