Go see the Neo-Impressionist Portrait if your travels take you to Brussels. My favorites are the works of Theo Van Rijsselberghe. This is where it happened, I mentioned it before... it was during this visit of these marvellous paintings in which color is so important, that my Panosonic Lumix decided to take only Black and White photographs.

Settings, dear you, settings… at least usually. As you know, no sensor really takes a "black and white" shot. What you have is in fact three black and white sensors superposed and separated by filters, allowing them to register either red, green or blue. The internal computer then mixes the three signals to send you a colour image. So it is very rare, though not unheard of, for a camera to send you a black and white image unless you tell it so.
ReplyDeleteSo my money is on the settings. If not, your Lumix is badly damaged and will probably have to be replaced.

Thank you so much Roger! I should know what you are saying and I do believe that I do :). What I do not understand though is that according to where the dial is placed the sensor shows the image in either black and white or in color. In other words, if the dial is on M/ S/P/A the sensor shows me the world in B &W. When the dial is set on stuff I never used before, on iA/ C1/ C2 , we are back in the color business. ...boggles the mind (mine at least). I have asked a knowledgeable friend to have a look at it week after next.
DeletePrachtige tekeningen.
