Brusselicious (part 2 ....French fries - of course)

The plaque at the bottom of the sculpture reads:

"Alexander-Igor Everard De Harzir, ex advertisig man, antique dealer and now ex-designer/scribbler...
                                                                           CONCEPT
The fried potato and its cone, symbol of our Brussels gastronomic culture, with every kind of sauce... Here a cone, there a corset? Whatever... let's give way to temptation!
Shiny black vinyl coated cone, fries painted in Shocking Pink and varnished, pink laces made of fabric and chrome-plated eyelets"

  3. After a concert in Ghent, I went to a frite stand and asked for an order of French Fries. The vendor, with good humor, corrected me. "We don't sell French Fries, we sell Belgian Fries."
Love the sculptures, and now I want frites with mayo.

  12. Glad many of you like it in an 'odd' way..

Belgian fries, French fries or even (see below Flemish) fries. Here is what wikipedia has to say about it but I am sure there is lots of literature and discussion to be found on the topic...

I got this from wikipedia : "Some Belgians believe that the term "French" was introduced when American soldiers arrived in Belgium during World War I, and consequently tasted Belgian fries. They supposedly called them "French," as it was the official language of the Belgian Army at that time.[11] At this time French fries were growing popular. However, in the south of Netherlands, bordering Belgium, they were, and still are, called Vlaamse Frieten or "Flemish fries."
